Sandeep Dhurve Carries the Gond Line Forward

A young Gond artist from the lineage of Jangarh Singh Shyam, painting nature, myth and environment in the intricate dotted line of central India's Pardhan Gond tradition.

Sandeep Dhurve was born into one of the most important stories in modern Indian art, and he is still writing it.

Born in 2001 in Patangarh and based in Bhopal, he is a Gond artist connected, through his father, to the school of Jangarh Singh Shyam, the painter who carried Pardhan Gond art from village walls onto paper and canvas and into the world's museums. Dhurve works in that intricate dotted and lined language, taking nature, mythology and the environment as his subjects.

His work has already been shown at the National Gallery of Modern Art, a rare early platform.
